Mechanical Reliability in Cryogenic Service
Components used in cryogenic systems must maintain both strength and toughness at extremely low temperatures. As shown by the tensile data at -196°C, AURUM® TPI exhibits an exceptional combination of high tensile strength and high elongation compared with PEEK and PCTFE. While PEEK and PCTFE retain useful strength, their significantly lower elongation indicates a more brittle response under load. In contrast, AURUM® TPI maintains approximately 190 MPa tensile strength together with about 16% elongation, demonstrating an uncommon balance of strength and ductility at cryogenic temperatures.
This combination can help reduce the risk of brittle cracking and mechanical failure in critical cryogenic components exposed to thermal cycling, pressure fluctuations, and mechanical loading. As a result, AURUM® TPI is well suited for demanding applications involving liquid oxygen (LOX), liquid hydrogen (LH₂), liquid helium, and other ultra-low-temperature process environments where mechanical reliability is essential.
